Texas tragedy: Top ten cartoons of the week!

At least 120 people are dead – including scores of kids – after devastating floods ravaged a central Texas county last week. That number will almost surely go up, and reports indicate Trump’s deep cuts to the National Weather Service may have played a role in limiting the response.

While a lot of Texas flooding cartoons were used by editors this week, their favorite was a simple yet sympathetic response to the tragedy drawn by Bob Englehart. Jeff Koterba’s flood cartoon, also popular with editors, was more pointed – it featured Elon Musk dancing on the roof of a flooded house waiving his government-slashing chainsaw.

Speaking of Musk, he also made an appearance in our most-reprinted cartoon of the week, a criticism of his new America Party drawn by Jonathan Brown. The bumper sticker on the car in the cartoon says it all: “Get us out of this mess.”

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Jonathan Brown

#2. Dave Whamond

We have a great new Caglecast with 115 cartoons of Trump vs MUSK –Cartoonists love the friction between these two, wacky characters! This also includes a great discussion about Elon Musk cartoons with Dave Whamond, Monte Wolverton, Jeff Koterba and Bob Englehart!

Tariffs and debt: Top ten cartoons of the week

Trying to keep up with news out of Trump’s White House is a Herculean task even the nation’s top cartoons have a hard time pulling off.

Chris Weyant touched on the madness in our most-reprinted cartoon this week, which features a dizzy trade representative nauseous over the administration’s ever-changing tariffs.

R.J. Matson’s cartoon about the national debt, appropriately represented by the Grand Canyon, hit Trump as he tries to push his “big, beautiful” budget bill through the Senate. His former billionaire buddy Elon Musk isn’t helping by calling the bill a “disgusting abomination,” in part because it’s projected to add trillions of dollars to the federal debt.

After their recent dust up, you’ll see plenty of Musk vs. Trump cartoons in the coming days. For now, here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Chris Weyant

#2. R.J. Matson

We have a great new Caglecast with 135 cartoons of Trump as an animal –with expert commentary from our top Trump-as-an-animal cartoonists, Adam Zyglis, Dave Whamond and Bill Day. Come watch!

#3. Gary McCoy

#4. Dave Granlund

#5. Monte Wolverton

#6. Dave Granlund

#7. Chris Weyant

#8. John Darkow

DOGE CUTS: Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

IRS agents. VA workers. Park rangers. Air traffic controllers. Social Security administrators. No one employed by the federal government appears safe with Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency waiving a chainsaw across Washington.

Our top two most-reprinted cartoons of the week come from Chris Weyant, and both mock Musk’s blunt and mistake-prone process of trimming the size of the federal workforce. I also enjoyed Jeff Koterba’s cartoon about astronauts returning home after being stuck on the International Space Station, only to find a “Planet of the Apes” scenario playing out in the U.S.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

Top Ten Cartoons of the Week! DOGE, Musk, Inflation, Taxes and More!

The U.S. government is undergoing mass layoffs that threaten many sectors previously taken for granted by taxpayers, including air safety, disease prevention, veteran healthcare, and even processing tax returns.

Our most-reported cartoon of the week comes from Dave Whamond, and features a scary but funny joke about a passenger paying an extra fee to guarantee a safe landing.

Editor’s also loved John Darkow’s cartoon about letting Elon Musk process everyone’s tax return, while Jeff Koterba focused his pen on Uncle Sam waiting in the unemployment line.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

Top Ten Cartoons of the WEEK!

This week in Washington, one of the big news stories was a fight between Donald Trump and the Associated Press over whether it’s called the Gulf of Mexico or the Gulf of America.

Our most popular cartoon of the week was drawn by Bob Englehart, and features a GPS overwhelmed by the Gulf of American and all the other new names Trump is throwing out there.

I contributed by drawing a cartoon about a depressed student being forced to write “Gulf of America” over and over again on the chalkboard. On some level, it feels like most of us are being punished.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Bob Englehart

#2. Dave Granlund

#4. John Darkow

#5. Jeff Koterba

Christmas Crunch – Top Ten of the Week

It’s the most wonderful time of year, until you check out the price of gifts for Christmas.

Inflation might be slowing down, but prices are still high and a number of our most popular cartoons this week touched on the expensive costs of gifts this holiday season.

Another popular subject was former President Donald Trump suggesting we rip up the Constitution and redo the 2020 election. I’d go into the reasons he cited, but they’re just as fictional as Santa himself.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

Twitter Trouble: Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

There’s been a lot of talk about people being disengaged from politics this election cycle, and this week’s most popular cartoons seems to back that up.

Despite midterm elections that saw Republicans struggle and Donald Trump put himself back into the spotlight, editors seemed more interested in Elon Musk and the chaos he’s created at Twitter. Between the issues at Twitter and layoffs at Amazon, it wasn’t the best week for some of the world’s top tech giants.

I also enjoyed Dave Whamond’s cartoon about a changing of the guard at Starbucks, from pumpkin spike lattes to eggnog lattes, which is probably a lot more relevant to people than how large the Republican majority will be in the House.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Monte Wolverton, Cagle.com

#2. Dave Granlund, Cagle.com

#3. John Darkow, Columbia Missourian

#4. Jeff Koterba, Cagle.com

Elon Musk Part One!

I am embarking on a marathon of posting Elon Musk editorial cartoons on Twitter!  We have about 200 of them.  Come follow me at: https://twitter.com/dcagle and you can see them all –or just tune in here and see them.

The rumor is that Twitter is no longer tolerant of celebrity parodies, but that may only apply to people who change their names to impersonate celebrities.  I hope that’s true.  I don’t think they will kill mainstream, syndicated editorial cartoons.  We’ll find out.

If it all goes well, I’ll buy one of those pretty, new blue checks that Twitter wouldn’t give me when I applied –but I can buy a blue check now for only $8/month!  What a deal!

I’m starting off with my own, barfy, Elon Musk/Twitter cartoon. Stacey tuned!
