Top Ten Cartoons! The Election is Almost here!

Election day is less than two weeks away, which means plenty of time for you to be inundated with more polls, campaign ads, and conspiracy theories about voting.

Our most popular cartoon of the week came from Bob Englehart, who suggests a nice, long hibernation to sleep through the inevitable recounts, legal battles, and fake controversies on social media. Editors also liked Chris Weyant’s cartoon about polls, which you should stop reading immediately if you want to reclaim your sanity before Election Day.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

Top Ten Cartoons of the Week! Election! Oh!

Kamala Harris is polling ahead in Pennsylvania. No wait, make that Donald Trump. Wait, maybe it’s Harris?

We’re about three weeks away from the presidential election, and whether it’s new polls or the latest campaign ads, it’s impossible to escape coverage of this year’s contest.

Our most popular cartoon of the week was drawn by Gary McCoy, and featured a father’s emotional reactions to political ads on TV. I also enjoyed John Darkow’s cartoon reminiscing about a time when we didn’t seem to care so much about other people’s politics.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Gary McCoy

#4. R.J. Matson

#5. Jeff Koterba

#6. Gary McCoy

High Gas Prices and a Hodgepodge of Top Ten Cartoons!

Can we get to Election Day without another assassination attempt targeting our presidential candidates?

A potential gunman outside Donald Trump’s Florida golf course was shot at and apprehended by authorities last weekend, calling into question how rigorous security is around the former president. Rick McKee compared Trump’s security detail to a slice of stinky cheese in a popular cartoon among editors this week.

While the second assassination attempt dominated our cartoons this week, our most-reprinted cartoon was Dave Granlund’s funny take on fuel prices going down. So much for electric cars.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Dave Granlund

#2. Pat Bagley

Debate Debacle – Top Ten Cartoons of the Week!

That debate was… something.

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris faced off for the first time this week, and cartoonists seem to have focused their efforts on the former president’s false claim migrants are eating the pets of residents in Springfield, Ohio. I liked Jeff Koterba’s cartoon, which melded Trump’s “They’re eating the dogs” line and JD Vance’s earlier attacks on “childless cat ladies.”

Our most popular cartoon following Tuesday debate was Dave Whamond’s funny riff of Trump saying he has a “concept of a plan” on health care.

Back in Washington, D.C., R.J. Matson reminded all of us about the impending government shutdown, which will happen on Oct. 1 if our politics don’t get their act together.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Dave Whamond

#2. Jeff Koterba

If you are unlucky enough to live in a battleground state, you’ve probably been inundated with an endless stream of campaign commercials. Bob Englehart’s widely-reprinted cartoon hit the nail on the head, while Dave Granlund and R.J. Matson both mocked the idea voters could still be undecided after such a deluge of information.

Top Ten Cartoons! The election, old hippies, and back to school!

It’s been a whirlwind month in the world of politics, capped off by the Democratic National Convention and Kamala Harris officially accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

One of our most-reprinted cartoons this week was a celebration of Joe Biden by Chris Weyant, who gained newfound popularity among Democrats after dropping out of the race. It sure seems like Donald Trump is regretting his decision to participate in an early debate, now that he has to face Harris.

Despite everything going on politically, our most popular cartoon this week was Dave Granlund’s celebration of Woodstock’s 55th anniversary, the legendary music festival at Yasgur’s Farm that took place on a rainy August weekend in 1969. Here’s to peace and music.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

Stuck in space: Top ten cartoons of the week

The U.S. will have a new president before two astronauts trapped in space will be able to return home.

Thanks to issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams will be stuck on the International Space Station until at least February, when either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump will be living in the White House.

Chris Weyant mocked the situation in a cartoon popular with editors this week, comparing the astronauts’ wait to Joe Biden’s lame-duck status as commander in chief. I also enjoyed Dave Granlund’s comparison of the situation to Gilligan’s Island, the classic TV show where a “three hour tour” famously turned into a much longer stay on an uncharted desert island.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

ROBOT REVOLUTION: TOP TEN CARTOONS OF THE WEEK

Afraid of robots taking over? If you’re phone habits are like most Americans, they already have, as Dave Whamond points out in his funny cartoon about artificial intelligence and our growing addiction to screens.

Sadly, a lot of the info we’re reading online is wrong. Frank Hansen mocked Google for its error-filled, A.I.-powered search results that told people to put glue on pizza and to eat rocks.

Fortunately, computers will be drawing all editorial cartoons in the near future, so the robots won’t have to worry about being mocked by us humans.

TEENS and SCREENS: TOP TEN CARTOONS OF THE WEEK

Addicted to screens? You’re not alone – according to recent studies, upwards of half of all Americans who own a smartphone display addictive behavior.

But that’s also nothing new. As Dave Whamond points out in his popular cartoon this week, people were addicted to their television screens when phones were still devices attached to the wall.

Maybe that’s why so many people flocked to see the northern lights, supercharged this year by massive solar flares. As Jeff Koterba points out, it’s a rare moment where people from across the political spectrum can enjoy something together. Or maybe they’re just sick of their phones

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:
