Justice Clarence Thomas Cartoons!

Ethics issues swirl around Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas –and great editorial cartoons swirl around him too!  On our latest Caglecast we discuss cartoons about Clarence Thomas and his sketchy ethics!  Here is the video and please subscribe to our Caglecast on YouTube.

We have a great new Caglecast about Justice Clarence Thomas with FOUR great CagleCartoonists: RJ Matson, Taylor Jones, Monte Wolverton and Ed Wexler!

The first cartoon (at the top), and this one are by John Darkow. On the podcast we have in in-depth discussion about Justice Thomas’ outie belly button.

The next three are by RJ Matson, who talks about each of these on our Caglecast podcast.  The cartoon below is a rough sketch that RJ submitted to his editor and it was rejected.  I think it would have been a great cartoon!  It made me laugh out loud.

This one is by Ed Wexler.

Biden is Running – Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

It’s finally official – President Joe Biden is running for reelection in 2024. At 80, Biden is already the oldest president in the country’s history. If he wins the election, he’ll be 82 when he’s inaugurated and leave office at the age of 86, which is sure to be great fodder for the nation’s cartoonists.

It’s not as if his likely opponent, former President Donald Trump, is all that younger. Trump would be 77-years-old on inauguration day. Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Rick McKee

#2. R.J. Matson

#3. Pat Bagley

#4. Jeff Koterba

#5. Dick Wright

#6. Bob Englehart

The big news over the past week was the leaking of highly classified military documents about the war in Ukraine and other issues, allegedly released by a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

Koterba Wins #1 spot and Needs Your Support – Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

We’re going back to the moon!

Jeff Koterba’s cartoon about NASA’s Artemis II mission, which will send four astronauts around the moon for the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972, was easily our most reprinted cartoon this week.

We’re running a crowd-funding campaign to support Jeff and keep him drawing cartoons. Jeff is one of our most popular cartoonists with editors, he’s an unusual moderate and a good friend. Please take a look at Jeff’s crowd-funding landing page where you can also see his archive of past cartoons, at Cagle.com/Koterba.

Editors were also interested in cartoons about longtime Supreme Court Justice Clarance Thomas, who reportedly accepted expensive vacations and gifts without disclosing them. Jeff also has the #8 cartoon about Justice Thomas.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Jeff Koterba

#2. Dave Granlund

Expensive Easter Eggs – Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

Sorry, Easter Bunny.

In the lead-up to Easter, a number of our most popular cartoons this week riffed on the impact frustratingly high egg prices could have on Easter.

There was also that relatively-minor news that Donald Trump became the first president in U.S. history to be indicted on criminal charges, as well as yet another school shooting, this time in Nashville, Tenn.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Dave Whamond

#2. Jeff Koterba

#3. Dick Wright

TikTok and CHINA!

We’ve got a great new Caglecast/podcast about TikTok and China where you can meet our cartoonists Patrick Chappatte, Jimmy Margulies and Dave Whamond. We also have our syndicated columnist, Jase Graves, who tells me that looks like a portrait of his daughter in the Chappatte cartoon below.

I hope you’ll watch our video on YouTube below and subscribe at YouTube.com/@caglecast! It really helps us if you subscribe, and we’ve been kind of disappointed at how few of our fans have been watching or subscribing to the podcast. One of my goals with the podcast is to get readers and especially editors to get to know the cartoonists as real people. Editors tend to treat editorial cartoons as if they are fungible, just commodities, rather than getting to know the people behind the cartoons, and learning more about the culture of our profession.

Here are some great cartoons from the 40 cartoons discussed in our podcast!

by Bart van Leeuwen
by Dave Whamond
by Patrick Chappatte
by Jimmy Margulies
by Daryl Cagle

I know our readers like to look at the cartoons, and watching (or listening to) a podcast is a different experience, but I hope you’ll give it a try! We’d like for you to get to know the cartoonists and where they are coming from!

TIKTOK TANGO: Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew faced blistering questions this week, as legislators try to decide whether to ban the Chinese-owned social media platform within the U.S.

The irony, of course, is politicians are trying to protect children from a website while not lifting a finger following the latest mass shooting at a school, this time The Covenant School in Nashville, Tenn.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. John Darkow

#2. Dave Whamond

#3. Monte Wolverton

#4. Dave Granlund

#5. Rivers

#6. R.J. Matson
