Syria Crackdown Cartoons

Violence continues to flare up in Syria, where the government, led by the bloody and brutal tactics of President Bashar al-Assad, have repressed a nearly 1-year-old uprising. According to opposition groups, government forces shelled the city of Homs, killing more than 200 people.

We have lots of cartoonists from across the globe that contribute to our site, and most have weighed in on this tragedy. Check out what they have done in our Syria Crackdown cartoon collection.

Washington Press Club Foundation Dinner

Another one of those rare occasions where I emerge from my hermit-like seclusion comes up this Wednesday.  I drew the program art for the Washington Press Club Foundation Dinner (at right) and I’m looking forward to attending.

They have an interesting tradition of getting top editorial cartoonists to draw the art for their program each year. I was impressed.

Five Reasons Donald Trump is a Joke

So Donald Trump is back in the news today. Apparently, The Donald has decided to endorse Mitt Romney for president in what might be the most awkwardly timed campaign event so far in this campaign. Think about it, after getting slammed over a flub for saying he doesn’t care about the poor, Romney is going to accept the endorsement of the world’s most notorious billionaire, whose catchphrase is, “You’re fired!”

At least cartoonists are ahead of the curve when it comes to Trump. But who’s the more foolish – the fool, or the fool who follows him? Here are five cartoons to help you decide…

Groundhog Day Cartoons

Today is Groundhog Day! According to reports, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which means we’ll all be experiencing six more weeks of winter. Which for most of us means we might finally start to experience winter for the first time this year.

Speaking of shadows, our cartoonists like to cast big and long ones with their work. Check out what they think in our new Groundhog Day cartoon collection.

Comparing Obama to Italian Cruise Ship Captain

Today the White House criticized comments by Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus comparing President Obama to the captain of the Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia, who allegedly abandoned his sinking ship.

Priebus said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Obama was “our own little Captain Schettino,” and accused the President of abandoning ship and spending more time on his re-election campaign.

Preibus wasn’t the only person to make this analogy. Some of the nation’s top political cartoonists drew cartoons to the same effect. So is it a fair analogy to make, or was Priebus (and our cartoonists) wrong to make the comparison?
