The Pope and pollen: Top ten cartoons of the week

Donald Trump generally dominates the headlines, but this week the news topics were all over the place, from taxes to far-off planets where scientists uncovered possible signs of life.

Our most-reprinted cartoon this week was Dave Granlund’s tribute to Pope Francis, who died this week at the age of 88. We had a number of cartoons about Francis, but Granlund’s depiction certainly struck a chord with editors.

Another popular cartoon was Dave Whamond’s funny take on pollen, proving once again everyone cares about the weather.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Dave Granlund

#2. Dave Whamond

#3. Dave Granlund

#4. Margolis & Cox

#5. Harley Schwadron

#6. Chris Weyant

#7. Jeff Koterba

#8. R.J.Matson

#9. Dave Granlund

Doomscrolling: Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

Have you heard the phrase doomscrolling? That’s when folks mindlessly consume negative news on their phone without lifting a finger to do anything about it.

Looks like it’s happening a lot during the Trump administration. Dave Whamond’s call for somebody, anybody to stand up and fight – including Democrats in Washington – was easily our most-reprinted cartoon of the week.

A big item in the news are Trump’s on again, off again tariffs on goods coming in from Canada and Mexico. Right now, they’re paused until next month, which led to a funny cartoon by Bob Englehart featuring a kid and his lemonade stand.

For now, don’t stop scrolling. Instead, check out our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Dave Whamond

#2. Bob Englehart

#3. John Darkow

#4. John Darkow

#5. Dick Wright

#6. Dave Whamond

#7. Jeff Koterba

#8. Dave Granlund

#9. Pat Byrnes

#10. Doug Plante

Top Ten Cartoons – Trump Shake Up!

If this past week taught us anything, it’s that Donald Trump’s second term will be just as chaotic and exhausting as his first.

I thought Jeff Koterba’s popular cartoon this week captured the moment perfectly, as Americans doomscroll while Trump’s wild Cabinet picks come in. I also enjoyed R.J. Matson’s cartoon about a battered Democrat returning to Washington a lame duck.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Jeff Koterba

#2. R.J. Matson

#3. Daryl Cagle

#4. Daryl Cagle

#5. Daryl Cagle

#6. Dick Wright

#8. John Cole

Daryl’s Best ELECTION DAY Cartoons!

Here are my favorite Election Day cartoons!  Go out and VOTE!

This is a pleasant daydream.

Here’s my new cartoon appreciating poll workers. I debated with myself whether to make them a bronze statue or just people raising the flag Iwo Jima style.

This is an oldie, revised from the cover of one of my Best Political Cartoons of the Year books. I changed it to be an election day cartoon.

Here’s a recent cartoon that was a popular one. I can stretch my mind and imagine why some doofus would vote for Trump; but I can’t imagine why anyone is undecided.

On election day. I’m sure everyone will be nice.

Vote!

I do lots of old folks watching TV.

This one isgood for every election.

I drew this one about Republican efforts to disenfranchise black voters. It takes many forms.

That’s it! Now go out and VOTE!

And don’t miss our new podcast on YouTube!

And here are the Top Ten …

#1

Bruce Plante took the #1 most reprinted spot, by a wide margin.
