My Tax Time Cartoons

As a cartoonist, I’m already predisposed to dislike numbers and math, but running a business means filing my taxes has gone from an annoyance to downright torture. Just the thought of having to print out those arcane, maze-like forms, rummage through boxes of reciepts, and finally figure out what sized check you have to write to Uncle Sam can make any sane person cry. It’s no wonder that I’ve drawn my fair share of cartoons comparing doing your taxes to torture.

Here are a couple of my cartoons about dreaded tax season. Hope they bring a smile to your face as you waste this weekend adding and deducting…

A nice flat tax with no deductions except needed medical expenses would be nice. Put the IRS out of business.

I'm not sure how flat tax works, but once I lived in a place that wanted to split the water bill for the mobile home park on a per capita basis – we conserved water and used it responsibly – the neighbors washed their cars every other day, filled wading pools for the kids also every other day, gave the kids garden hoses to play with as toys – and just as a guess they were wasting ten gallons to every gallon we used, and we were supposed to pay to subsidize their right to run water down the gutters of the driveway every day of the summer? Who of the flat taxers will support the burden of the tax loopholes and giveaways to the oil companies even while they admit to record breaking profits? AND that is only ONE priviliged corporate welfare sector…

Your water bill comparison is not applicable. A flat tax is a flat percentage of income, not a flat dollar amount. So those that make more are still paying more $. Flat tax with no deductions means no loopholes for those evil companies either. So instead of your water bill example where everyone evenly splits the bill, a flat tax is still scaled to the individual because it is a percentage.

I AM TALKING PERSONAL INCOME TAX. IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A FLAT TAX NO LOOPHOLES – NO GOLF/MARTINI DEDUCTIONS FOR BUSINESSES.
