Trump ‘n Kim Summit

There are so many great quotes between Trump and l’il Kim that I thought it would be fun to draw the best quotes into a thinking cartoon.

I know. I know. Wordy cartoons are bad. But I didn’t write this one, and the words are crazy!

I think I’ll start drawing l’il Kim with devil horn hair from now on.

Carrot and Stick

It looks like the on again, off again summit is North Korea’s Kim Jong Un is on again. Trump seems very motivated to have the meeting after cancelling the meeting a few days ago, leading me to draw a cartoon last week that probably didn’t get printed much.

This is an old standard, but it is fun to draw. We have a great section up on Cagle.com about Trump chasing the Nobel Peace Prize – my favorite is this one by Austrian cartoonist, Marian Kamensky:

This one is also a charmer, by Steve Sack of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

For any “carrot and stick” fans out there, don’t miss my Wall Street Coloring book!

What a great Fathers Day present this book is! Dad will be busy coloring evil Wall Street crooks all Summer!

Wonderful Dialogue

Donald Trump called off the planned meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un yesterday because of a typical, belligerent statement from North Korea. It was probably a good move to call off the summit; now North Korea is pushing for a new summit instead of the USA being the eager one, which is probably a strategic necessity. Unlike many in the media, I liked the letter that Trump wrote to L’il Kim, especially Trump’s line, “I felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me.”

Since I’m cool with Trump’s response, I considered this to be one my my rare pro-Trump cartoons –but my drawing of Trump is unflattering so I doubt that the Trumpettes would see this cartoon as pro-Trump. We have a “Trump Friendly Cartoons” section on the front page of CagleCartoons.com and I didn’t put this one there –there’s just too much anti-Trump flavor, even in my pro-Trump cartoons.

It has taken me a long time to develop a Trump caricature that I’m happy with. Cartoonists are still all over the map on the way they draw Trump, but the long red tie has come to be a common device among almost all of the editorial cartoonists. I love the long, red tie.

Here are some of my “summit called off” cartoon favorites that came in today; this one is by Nate Beeler of the Columbus Dispatch:

This one is by Stephane Peray from Thailand:

This one is by Marian Kamensky from Austria:

This one is by Steve Sack of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

Mmm! Firings look TASTY

As every day passes, and Mueller’s Russia probe inches closer and closer to president Trump, the prospect of firing Robert Mueller, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Assistant FBI Director Rod Rosenstein looks more and more delicious.

It occurs to me that I could draw every editorial cartoon as a scene from the swamp.

Stormy!

This is my first Stormy Daniels cartoon. Somehow I think there will be more to come.

I thought it would be a funny caricature to chop off most of her face, because it is her big, pointy chin and thin, straight lips that are distinctive. I could have done the caricature with no face at all, since her colossal boobs are all she needs for a caricature. I’ve noticed that other cartoonists give Stormy a breast reduction in their drawings – an unusual situation for cartoonists who typically exaggerate features. I also liked the idea of a composition where the top/right half of the image is empty.

We have lots more great Stormy Daniels cartoons on Cagle.com! Come look!

Congratulations, Putin

There was a “big story” a couple of days ago about president Trump calling and congratulating Russian president Putin on his “election” victory. Trump had been given notes from his staff for the call, with a warning in all caps urging him not to congratulate Putin, probably because Putin’s election was bogus as top opponents weren’t allow to run, and in the wake of Russia’s attempted assassination of a double agent in England. This led to more speculation about why Trump seems to compliment Putin at every opportunity, which quickly turned into banter about who leaked the story.

This story would hang around for a while in normal times, but the news moves so fast these days the story was over about the time I finished drawing my cartoon. Gotta draw faster.

Chaos

I love how the long, red tie has become a standard cliché for editorial cartoonists. It is much more fun the the big ears on Obama and George W. Bush. Everyone thought that Trump’s hair would be the thing that drew the cartoonists together. The long tie is even more fun than Clinton’s dropped pants and boxer shorts with the little hearts.

Trump is arguably more sexually indiscriminate and profligate than Clinton, but the sex issues don’t seem to stick to Trump as easily as they did to a blue dress.

I like the idea of the president tied up into a Gordian Knot. I did the same thing to Obama some years ago, and used it as the cover of my Obama Coloring Book – check out all of my coloring books at CagleBook.com.

Triple Putz

With all the talk of “landing the triple lutz” at the olympics, it occurred to me that Trump is a “triple putz”.

I thought “putz” was Yiddish slang for “penis” with the meaning of “jerk” but according to the Google dictionary:

putz
ˌpəts,ˌpo͝ots/
NORTH AMERICAN informal
noun
  1. 1.
    a stupid or worthless person.
  1. engage in inconsequential or unproductive activity.
“too much putzing around up there would ruin them”

That definition is not quite what I meant. I told our Cagle cartoonists that we weren’t going to accept penis gags any more. That was quite a difficult edict to enforce – I’m even violating it with this triple putz. Putzes win, I guess.

Trump Valentines Candy UNCENSORED

Here’s my Trump Valentines Day Candy. I drew a tame version and asked my followers on Twitter (@dcagle) what they through – they wanted a less tame version. Somehow, I think newspapers will print the tame version.

The spicy version:

Knowing that newspapers have both versions to choose from, here’s an opportunity to see if your local editor is tame or spicy.

Trump Undermines Mueller

My goal with this cartoon was to make it look like the situation is threatening to both Trump (who can have the ground fall in on him) and Mueller (who may fall).

So … who will be the first to fall, and the first to get squished, when this all collapses?

New Year Trump and Little Kim

As the years pass, some things stay the same.

Presidents come and go, but North Korea remains a pain in the butt. Things don’t change much. Here’s a New Year’s cartoon I drew three years ago with Obama and Li’l Kim.

I don’t think we’ll see a change in North Korea, but hopefully we’ll see a new president getting bitten in the butt in another three years.

Trump and Twitter

Here’s my new TwitterTrump with the media.

I searched our database for other “Trump hair on the Twitter bird” cartoons for this blog post just now, and I found this similar Nate Beeler from some months ago.

Ouch! That is pretty similar and Trump looks poised to barf. We’re getting to a saturation point on Trump with Twitter-bird cartoons; there are thousands.  Twitter-bird in Trump’s nesty hair is pretty common, as are Twitter birds pooping on and swarming around Trump in all manner of aggressive scenarios. Just go to PoliticalCartoons.com and search for “Twitter” to see the swarmy swarm.
