Taylor Swift and Autumn! Top Ten Cartoons of the Week!

Did you hear Taylor Swift just might be dating Super Bowl champ Travis Kelce? The news was plastered everywhere this past week, so I commend you if the dating habits of two famous 30-year-olds somehow passed you by.

I enjoyed Rick McKee’s cartoon about the Swift-Kelce hoopla, which juxtaposes celebrity gossip with all the real issues our country faces.

The most popular cartoon this week was Rivers’ take on the beautiful colors of fall. It’s hard to believe we’re just three months away from 2024. Guess I should enjoy the quiet before the election really gets underway.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Rivers

Top Ten Cartoons of the Week – January 16, 2021

Here are our most reprinted cartoons of last week (January 9nd through January 16th 2021).

The news was dominated by President Trump and continuing fallout from the insurrection at the Capitol, but as usual, no cartoons depicting Trump were popular with editors. Four of the Top Ten cartoons are about the pandemic.

Jeff Koterba had another incredible week taking the #1 and #8 spots. Dave Whamond also had a fantastic week, taking home three prizes for #6, #9 and #10.

Congratulations to the other CagleCartoonists who made the Top Ten list this week: Kevin Siers, Dave Granlund, John Cole, Randy Enos and Gary McCoy.

The Koterba and Granlund top two cartoons each got about twice as many reprints as the #3 – even so, we’re back to the normal pattern of the Top Ten cartoons dominating all the rest of the cartoons and the top two being extra big hits.

The Top Ten cartoons are what most readers see since only 20% of the cartoons get 80% of the reprints. Our Top Ten is a measure of how many editors choose to reprint each of our cartoons, from the 62 cartoonists in our CagleCartoons.com syndication package. Just about half of America’s daily, paid circulation newspapers (around 700 papers) subscribe to CagleCartoons.com

Our reader supported site, Cagle.com, still needs you!  Journalism is threatened with the pandemic that has shuttered newspaper advertisers. Some pundits predict that a large percentage of newspapers won’t survive the pandemic economic slump, and as newspapers sink, editorial cartoonists who depend on newspapers sink too, and along with them, our Cagle.com site.

The world needs political cartoonists more now than ever. Please consider supporting Cagle.com and visit Cagle.com/heroes.

Top Ten Cartoons of the Week – September 19, 2020

Here are our top cartoons of last week (September 12th through September 19th, 2020).

This was an incredible week for Dave Granlund who dominates with four cartoons among the Top Ten most reprinted cartoons.

Every so often, when there is more demand for a topic than there are cartoons on the topic, I’ll repost “evergreen” oldies into the syndication flow, and I’ll mark them “REPOST” so editors won’t be embarrassed by forgetting that they ran the oldie before. Last week I reposted a few cartoons about the wildfires on the West coast, including one by Dave Granlund that made the Top Ten – the first time that has ever happened with a reposted cartoon.

As usual, no drawings of Trump made the Top Ten this week.  Six of the top cartoons are about the pandemic, two are about the fires, and only one is about the election.

Congratulations to Dave Fitzsimmons  for nabbing the #1 spot. Jeff Koterba was close behind at #2.  Jeff continues his long streak of appearances in the Top Ten, the day after being laid off from 31 years on the job at The Omaha World-Herald newspaper.

And kudos to the other CagleCartoonists who made the most reprinted list this week, John Cole, Randy Enos, Dave Whamond and Bruce Plante.

Our Top Ten is a measure of how many editors choose to reprint each of our cartoons, from the 62 cartoonists in our CagleCartoons.com syndication package. Just about half of America’s daily, paid circulation newspapers (around 700 papers) subscribe to CagleCartoons.com.

Our reader supported site, Cagle.com, still needs you!  Journalism is threatened with the pandemic that has shuttered newspaper advertisers. Some pundits predict that a large percentage of newspapers won’t survive the pandemic economic slump, and as newspapers sink, so do editorial cartoonists who depend on newspapers, and along with them, our Cagle.com site, that our small, sinking syndicate largely supports, along with our fans.

The world needs political cartoonists more now than ever. Please consider supporting Cagle.com and visit Cagle.com/heroes.  We need you! Don’t let the cartoons die!

#7

Dave Whamond takes 7th place with an “everyday life in the pandemic” cartoon that editors crave.

#8

Dave Granlund takes 8th place with a wildfire oldie that we reposted – the first time an oldie has made the Top Ten.
