Trump’s Legal Arguments

President Trump doesn’t accept that he lost the election and he’s been frantically filing a slew of suits, with more on the way, claiming fraud in the election without proof. The courts seem unimpressed with these lawsuits so far and time is running out for Trump. Here’s my cartoon.

And for some reason, people want to see my rough sketches, so here you go.

See our America Elects Biden cartoon on Cagle.com here.

Top Ten Cartoons of the Week – November 7, 2020

This was a crazy election week! Here are our most reprinted cartoons of last week (October 31st through November 7th 2020). Newspaper editors found lots of cartoons they liked this week and the usage curve was flattened. Many cartoons were bunched together in the stats, with each getting lots of reprints – very different from recent weeks when editors all reprinted the same, few cartoons. Editors found a lot to like this week.

We have a crazy, improbable, four way tie for first place, with each first place cartoon getting about half as many reprints as last week’s #1 cartoon. Every Top Ten cartoon this week was about the election but, as usual, none of the most reprinted cartoons included drawings of Trump or Biden.  This is the first week for many months where no coronavirus cartoons made the Top Ten.

Congrats to Jeff Koterba who has two cartoons on the list, including one cartoon tied for #1. Two of my own cartoons tied for #1. Kudos to Rick McKee who also shares the four-way tie for #1 this week.

I was pleased to see our new CagleCartoonist, Pat Byrnes, made the Top Ten list this week. Congratulations to the other cartoonists with the most reprinted cartoons this week: RJ Matson, Dave Granlund, John Darkow and Pat Bagley.

Our Top Ten is a measure of how many editors choose to reprint each of our cartoons, from the 62 cartoonists in our CagleCartoons.com syndication package. Just about half of America’s daily, paid circulation newspapers (around 700 papers) subscribe to CagleCartoons.com

The Most Popular Cartoons from February

Here are the most popular cartoons from February. 20% of the cartoons get 80% of the reprints in newspapers, because editors tend to like the same things at the same time. Editors also tend to like the same, small pool of cartoonists, even though all of our cartoons and cartoonists are presented to editors in the same way –so these are the cartoons that got the vast majority of reprints in American newspapers last month.

Hillary and Trump – @#%$!!

I almost didn’t draw this cartoon, because Hillary and Trump would never wear t-shirts and it just looked wrong – but then I got the idea of having them wear the t-shirts on top of their pant-suit and suit-suit, and that struck me as funny!

I also struggled with Hillary’s face in this one, as you can see in the video below. That’s the problem with these videos; all my struggles are on full display. The magic is gone.

In the next video I clean up my messy drawing and color it in Photoshop with my Wacom Cintiq.

Dr. Ben Carson is NOT a Liar!

I think Dr. Ben Carson is NOT a liar. Now, given that, I need to decide if that is a good thing.

carson-on-caglePeople always say, “Daryl, with this presidential election you must be having so much fun! And you must be soon busy!” Actually, newspapers don’t use any more editorial cartoon when times are fun, so it never gets busier. And having the campaign dominate the news for a year doesn’t make a cartoonist’s life more fun. A little variety adds spice.
But, Ben Carson is fun. We have a wonderful and growing collection of Ben Carson cartoons on Cagle.com Come take a look! My talented buddy Taylor Jones drew that Carson in our promo.

Here are a couple of my recent favorites, this first one is by my buddy, Jeff Koterba of the Omaha World-Herald:

This one is by the brilliant Kevin Siers of the Charlotte Observer:

This strange one from Randall Enos made me laugh out loud – it is a linoleum block print that Randy carves with a knife, inks and prints on paper, then scans, showing Jesus carrying a sleeping Carson at the head of the presidential race – I think that says it all.
