Republican Healthcare Poop

Today we saw the TrumpCare/RyanCare Repeal and Replace bill go down in flames – or poop. Here’s my cartoon.

This is based on a cartoon I drew in 2009 when President Obama and the Democrats were pushing Obamacare through Congress.

Want to see me draw this one in real time? Check out the video below …

And here’s the video of me coloring the cartoon in Adobe Photoshop on my Wacom Cintiq …

The New House Speaker, Paul Ryan

Today the house Republicans voted to make Paul Ryan the new house speaker, replacing John Boehner who seems to have taken a responsible turn in negotiating a spending bill.

Paul Ryan was Mitt Romney’s running mate, and he has a history as a budget-cutting-wonk. He also had longer, puffier hair the last time around, which was much more fun to draw.

Republican Leadership Puzzle

The Republicans in the House of Representative are a real puzzle – so I decided to go with that for today’s cartoon. Perhaps this a little obtuse. I think that readers who are familiar with my work would be able to decipher my GOP elephant from just a tiny little puzzle piece, but this cartoon may go over the heads of many readers.

I thought it was possible that some readers (particularly elderly readers who love old-fashioned jigsaw puzzles) might actually cut the little pieces out and assemble the puzzle – and it actually works! SPOILER ALERT — scroll down to see the solution … or, is that really the solution … ?

Vice Presidential Debate Open Thread

Since we have so many devoted readers with as many opinions about politics as our cartoonists (and since it went so well during the first Presidential Debate), here’s an open thread for all of you to have at it LIVE during tonight’s Vice Presidential debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan.

To start the discussion, here’s a funny pre-debate cartoon by The Hill’s Chris Weyant (don’t miss all our great Vice Presidential Debate Cartoons):

Who do you think will win? Are you rooting for anyone? What do you hope they discuss? Will Biden say something crazy? Comment away below!

Five Funny Joe Biden Cartoons

After President Obama’s miserable, poll-shifting performance in last week’s debate with Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Democrats are put in the akward position of hoping for a strong performance in Thursday’s Vice Presidential debate from gaffe-machine Joe Biden.

RELATED: View our Best of Biden cartoon collection

This means that unfortunately for Obama, he’s going to have to remove the tape from Joe’s mouth, like in this cartoon by Taylor Jones

Arizona Daily Star cartoonist David Fitzsimmons thinks Biden might be able to take advantage of an inexperienced Paul Ryan…

At this point, Delaware cartoonist Rob Tornoe thinks Joe Biden is a wildcard…

While Augusta Chronicle cartoonist Rick McKee knows where Biden will be resting prior to the debate…

Minneapolis Star-Tribune cartoonist Steve Sack takes a quick peek into the mind of Joe Biden, Looks fun…

McCoy: 'Paul Ryan a Cool-headed, Economic Einstein'

News of Mitt Romney’s choice of Wisconsonis Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate broke late Friday night. By Saturday morning, our conservative flamethrower Gary McCoy was first on the scene, beating everyone (including me) to the cartooning punch:

I asked McCoy what he thought of the pick, and he responded:

Obviously, I think Mitt Romney made a great choice by picking Rep. Paul Ryan for his Vice Presidential running mate. Could he have made a better choice? Oh sure, Jesus perhaps. But on second thought, that would have only invited more vitriolic criticism from the left, in particular, Bill Maher, who would have likely donated another million dollars to Obama’s super pac just to smear the Son of God as another extreme right-winger who is anti-government and for pushing his Christian values on America.

Despite lacking Christ’s pure divinity, Paul Ryan is a cool-headed, economic Einstein. Sure, with him as Vice President, the country will sorely miss Joe Biden’s hilarious gaffes. But that’s just the price we’ll have to pay to finally get our country out of the gigantic debt that team Obama has thrust upon America, and relieve our future generations of the China-red shackles that it has forged for them.

What’s your thought of the pick? Check out all of our Paul Ryan VP cartoons, and either comment below or drop us a note on our Facebook page.

Blagojevich Cartoons

Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who famously tried to sell the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama, was found guilty on 17 of 20 federal corruption charges, and faces up to 300 years behind bars. Interestingly, Blagojevich becomes the second straight Illinois governor convicted of corruption. His predecessor, George Ryan, is now serving 6 1/2 years in federal prison.

Check out what cartoonists think of Blago in our new Blagojevich Convicted cartoon slideshow

Obama, Republicans and the Budget

Today, Barack Obama gave a speech detailing his approach to deficit reduction, offering a contrast to the “Path of Prosperty” that Congressman Paul Ryan proposed last month. Obama’s plan includes both cuts in military spending and tax increases for the wealthiest Americans (something the Republicans don’t seem to be able to stomach).

Republicans seem more hell-bent on pushing their social agenda than honestly reducing the deficit, and if Obama’s proven anything since taking office, it’s what a lousy negotiator he is …

It’s tough to hear Obama talk seriously about cutting the budget. Since coming into office, Obama has been forced to deal with a massive recession and job loss, as well as a massive deficit he inherited from his predecessors. As a result, he’s been up to his big ears in red ink…

Meanwhile, Republicans have no problems cutting money from the budget, as long as it has nothing to do with the military or rich folks…

Republicans’ favorite target recently has been civil servants with their outrageous $50,000 salaries. The billions Wall Street has fleeced out of the economy and the middle class over the last decade doesn’t seem to bother them much…

At least that’s something they share with Obama…

… despite their claims …
