See, Hear, Speak no Virus

Here’s my newest cartoon on Trump and the coronavirus …

I think we’ll be drawing coronavirus cartoons for about three more months. I wanted to do a See No Evil, Hear No Evil. Speak No Evil cartoon and I first thought of doing Trump as a monkey, but that seemed to be nothing but a “name-calling” cartoon because the “monkeyness” dominated it, so I drew regular Trump in monkey position. The gag was going to be something about “touching your face,” but I didn’t decide on the wording until after I finished the sketch, as it is easy to see in the scrawl below. (I hear a lot from people who want me to post my dirty, rough sketches, so, OK. I’m not making them pretty just because people will see them. This is the messy truth.)

Here are my three, newest, favorite coronavirus cartoons by CagleCartoonists since my last post! The first one is by Steve Sack.

This one is by Peter Kuper

… And this one is by Dave Whamond

A brave woman cartoonist was imprisoned in Iran for posting this cartoon on Facebook

Brave Iranian cartoonist Atena Farghadani was imprisoned in Iran for posting this cartoon on her own Facebook page. Please share the video and the cartoon – everyone should see it.

Read the latest news about Atena on the Cartoonists Rights Network site.

You can e-mail Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations at [email protected]. Here is a suggested letter:

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei,
President Hassan Rouhani
Head of Judiciary Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani

Honored Sirs;

I am writing to protest the outrageous sentence handed down against Iranian artist Atena Farghadani, and to urge her conviction be overturned and Ms. Farghadani freed.

Freedom of expression and association are universal human rights recognized by all civilized nations, including Iran as a signatory to the UN’s International Human Rights Conventions. The arrest and sentencing of Atena Farghadani is a clear violation of those rights, and also of Iran’s own statutes and international agreements. It cannot be allowed to stand.

In the interest of justice and to demonstrate its recognition of universal human rights, Iran must release Atena Farghadani.

Respectfully,

your name
your city/state/country

Benghazi Media Monkeys

This cartoon by conservative cartoonist Glenn McCoy motivated me to draw my cartoon below. Glenn forgot the most obvious monkey and I thought I needed to correct the oversight.

Last month I corrected an error in a cartoon by Glenn’s even-more-conservative brother, Gary.  The McCoys are such an inspiration!
