Here are our most reprinted cartoons of the week ending January 8th, 2022. Congratulations to Jeff Koterba had a fantastic week taking the #1, #2 and #3 cartoons of the week! I’ve never seen that happen before! Jeff was also our most reprinted cartoonist of the week, overall. And kudos to John Cole who has two cartoons in the Top Ten!

Just about half of America’s daily, paid circulation newspapers (around 700 papers) subscribe to CagleCartoons.com. These are the cartoons that editors picked last week.

Here are our most reprinted cartoons of the week ending August 7th, 2021. Congratulations to Jeff Koterba who took the the #1 spot again this week – Jeff was the overall most reprinted CagleCartoonist this week and he has two cartoons in the Top Ten!

Congrats to RJ Matson who has two cartoons in the Top Ten and to the other cartoonists who made the Top Ten this week: Randy Enos, Dave Whamond, Dave Granlund, Steve Sack, Bruce Plante and John Darkow. The pandemic was the big topic again this week, claiming six out of the Top Ten cartoons.

Here’s my new COVID cartoon, about all of the states that are dropping their mask mandates just as COVID cases are spiking. That includes: Texas, Alaska, Arizona,Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

I gave the maskless idiot the same basic face as the Coronaviruses – it’s only fair.

Peter Kuper 2020 Top Ten

Here are Peter Kuper’s Top Ten cartoons of the year that were most reprinted in newspapers. Peter Kuper is a regular contributor to The New Yorker, The Nation and MAD Magazine where he has written and illustrated SPY vs. SPY every issue since 1997. He is the co-founder and editor of World War 3 Illustrated a political graphics magazine that has given a forum to political artists for 40 years. He has produced over two dozen books including The System, Diario de Oaxaca, Ruins (winner of the 2016 Eisner Award) and adaptations of many of Franz Kafka’s works into comics including The Metamorphosis and Kafkaesque (winner of the 2018 Reuben Award) . His latest graphic novel is an adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. He has lectured around the world and has taught comics courses at The School of Visual Arts in NYC and Harvard University

Top Ten Cartoons of the Week – September 26, 2020

Here are our most reprinted cartoons of last week (September 19th through September 26th, 2020).

Three of the top cartoons are about the pandemic, five are about Justice Ginsburg and her Supreme Court seat.

Congratulations to Dave Whamond for taking the #1 spot, and to Dave Granlund at #2. The top two cartoons outpaced the pack by a wide margin this week.

Kudos to Steve Sack and Jeff Koterba who each have two cartoons in the Top Ten. And congrats to the other cartoonists who made our list of the cartoons most published in newspapers this week, Pat Bagley, Rick McKee, John Darkow – and me.

Flu Epidemic Grips America

The new on TV often doesn’t match up well with the news that actually affects most people – by that measure, I think theft epidemic is the biggest story in the USA right now, with hospitals filled to overflowing across the nation. Also, it is an excuse to draw something different than the rest of the pack of editorial cartoonists who are obsessed with Trump every day.

It is so nice to have an opportunity to draw a nasty monster. I thought about drawing a “flu bug” insect, like the Zika cartoon below …

But the Zika epidemic was transmitted by roaming mosquitos. My “flu bug” looks a bit too much like a reptile.

The image at the right, from Wikipedia, shows what the “flu bug” actually looks like. I don’t find this image to be very interesting; it has no eyes, or legs, or teeth, or snot. If is was an amoeba shape I could take some license with the shape to make arms and legs, but no.

Reptiles are threatening, so, what the hell. The flu is trouble for everybody, including me.
