TRUMP TRIALS! Top Ten Cartoons of the Week!

It’s hard to satirize the news and Donald Trump with headlines like, “Ex-president selling bibles to help pay legal cost of porn star hush money trial.”

Chris Weyant has had a lot of success poking fun at Trump. He had our most reprinted cartoon this week, a funny look at the former president’s various trials through the lens of the NCAA tournament.

Speaking of madness, the Republicans and Speaker Mike Johnson have just a one seat majority in the House, thanks to some recent retirements. As John Darkow suggests in his popular cartoon this week, now is definitely a good time for Congress to go on spring break.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

ALL ABOUT AGE: Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

Age is on the mind of voters in America, with 81-year-old Joe Biden and 77-year-old Donald Trump set to face off in November’s presidential election.

John Cole had a funny spin on the issue of age this week that struck a chord with editors. None of us are getting any younger, and we’re still eight stress-inducing months away from the election.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

Biden Woes: The Top Ten Cartoons of the Week!

It was another busy week for the nation’s cartoonists, with news running the gamut from Mitch McConnell stepping down from Republican leadership to AT&T’s cell phones going down across the country.

This week’s most-reprinted cartoon came from Dick Wright, who was not a fan of President Joe Biden’s most recent move to forgive student loan debt for over 150,000 borrowers. Biden continues to struggle in polling against former President Donald Trump, and he (as well as his bite-happy dog, Commander) has found himself an accessible target for cartoonists.

Top Cartoons! Russia and Embryos as Children

Another week, another mixed bag of news topics that found their way onto the drawing boards of the nation’s top cartoonists.

Several of our most-reprinted cartoons this week centered on Russia, which included former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s widely-mocked softball interview with Vladimir Putin. There was also a vague warning of a Russian space super weapon that caught the attention of a couple of cartoonists.

This week’s most popular cartoon was Dave Granlund’s riff on a court in Alabama ruling that frozen embryos are children. While the ruling has been highly controversial, impacting doctors, hospitals, and families trying to have a child, Granlund chose to focus on a family attempting to claim tax credits for the “kids” they have in the lab.

Back to School Top Ten Cartoons!

Is it that time of year already?

Back to school cartoons were popular with editors this week. I chuckled at Bruce Plante’s cartoon juxtaposing a frowning kid with a smiling parent, a sentiment I’m sure many families relate to after spending the entire summer with their children.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Dave Granlund

With the midterms over, all eyes are on the 2024 election, which as of now will feature a rematch between current President Joe Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump. Inflation continues to be a popular topic for cartoonists. At least gas prices have started to drop.

ELECTION’S END: TOP TEN CARTOONS OF THE WEEK

You might have heard; there was an election this week. While there is a good deal that remains uncertain (Georgia’s Senate race won’t be settled until next month), one thing that seems universal is our exhaustion over election ads and petty bickering from candidates.

Fortunately, we can all now safely turn on our TVs and not be afraid of eerie music playing behind black and white images of craven politicians attacking one another. We’ll just have to wait a bit longer for those lawn signs to be removed.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

Top Ten Cartoons, July 1, 2022

Things are hot right now across the United States, and I’m not just talking about the weather.

Cartoonists responded to a host of issues this week, from the explosive January 6 committee hearings to the continued high prices we’re paying for just about everything. If that weren’t enough, there’s the looming threat of a recession off in the horizon, just in time for the midterm elections.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1

Chris Weyant took the #1 most reprinted spot.

#2

Dave Whamond took second place, also his first of two in the list!

#3

Jeff Koterba took third place!

#4

Rick McKee nabbed 4th place.

#5

John Darkow claims the five-spot.

#6

Dave Granlund landed in sixth.

#7

Inflation Irritation: Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

The Supreme Court’s expected decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was still on the mind of cartoonists and editors this week, which isn’t surprising since the landmark ruling on abortion has been the law of the land for nearly 50 years.

Inflation and supply chain problems continue to be issues that resonate with readers, especially with the news this week that baby formula is hard to find. What food shortage will we be drawing about next week?

#1

Rivers took the #1 most reprinted spot.

#2

Rivers also took second place.

#3

Jeff Koterba  took third place!

#4

John Darkow nabbed 4th place.

Top Ten Cartoons of the Week – December 19th, 2021

Here are our most reprinted cartoons of the week ending  December 19th, 2021.

Steve Sack took the #1 top position. The overall most reprinted cartoonist of the week was Jeff Koterba who nabbed the #2 and #4 spots – also, congrats to Rick McKee and Dick Wright for placing two cartoons in the Top Ten.  Editors hang on to Christmas cartoons, collecting their favorites to run later.  My own #9 cartoon was drawn the week before; and Dick Wright’s #10 cartoon was #5 the previous week.

Just about half of America’s daily, paid circulation newspapers (around 700 papers) subscribe to CagleCartoons.com. These are the cartoons that editors picked last week.

Our reader supported site, Cagle.com, still needs you!  Journalism is threatened with the pandemic that has shuttered newspaper advertisers. Some pundits predict that a large percentage of newspapers won’t survive the pandemic economic slump, and as newspapers sink, editorial cartoonists who depend on newspapers sink too, and along with them, our Cagle.com site.
