Ed Wexler Explains his Cartoon at our Exhibition

Read on to see a video of our cartoonist, Ed Wexler, explaining his “All Votes Must be Counted” cartoon to some French fans at the exhibition.

We had two lovely exhibitions at the “International Center“, Press Cartoons museum in St Just le Martel, France this year. One of the shows was about Donkeys and Elephants.

American donkey and elephant cartoons make no sense to foreign audiences. Our exhibit in France was curated by cartoons historian Olivier Auvray, who invited six cartoonists in our group to show their best donkey/elephant cartoons, which were presented with explanations –even with the explanations, the cartoons seemed seemed pretty difficult for the French fans to comprehend.

Here’s Ed.

See CagleCartoonist Jeff Koterba explaining his cartoon at the exhibition in France.

Here’s our historian/curator, Olivier Auvray explaining elephant cartoons by CagleCartoonist David Fitzsimmons.

Crazy Republicans and Military Sexual Assault Bill

Often I get a message from Facebook that shows one of my old cartoons and says “This is what you were doing seven years ago.” And I sometimes think, “Wow, that cartoon is just as good today.” Here are a couple of examples of that – I changed a few words on seven year old cartoons and re-released them as “revisions.” Here are the crazy Republicans, 2021 version …

And here’s an updated Military Sexual Assault Bill cartoon that was a cartoon about a “Military Sexual Assault Report” eight years ago the report made news and led to no change at all.

This is my illustration of the toxic work environment in the military. Most problems don’t go away. Maybe this new bill will help.

ANTIFA

When I finished this ANTIFA cartoon yesterday I showed it to my wife who said the gag was a meme and she had seen it a dozen times on social media.  ANTIFA bastards!

ANTIFA (Anti-Facists) are inconsequential but are a nonsense boogeyman for the right and they take up a lot of time on Fox News.  Here are a couple of cartoons poking the demon ANTIFA from conservative cartoonist, Gary McCoy.

Nate Beeler doesn’t like Trump, and doesn’t like ANTIFA either.

Here are three ANTIFA cartoons from some level-headed cartoonists.

Ted Cruz Monkey Poop

Today’s cartoon is based on one of my oldies that was based on a famous cartoon by the great British cartoonist, Steve Bell.  I’m a big Steve Bell fan.

Editors don’t like poop in cartoons, and this one isn’t likely to get much ink, but it makes me happy. Here’s the Steve Bell cartoon it is based on. Bell told a funny story at an old editorial cartoonists convention about how he had to negotiate with his editor about how many poops on the wall would be acceptable. I’m my own editor, and I can have as many poops as I want – still, I envy the British cartoonists who can get away with much stronger, nastier cartoons than American cartoonists can.

One more thing … I think editorial cartoonists who use labels are sissies, and I used a lot of labels here, but I didn’t label Ted Cruz, I only labeled his poop – an important distinction.

Best of the Protest 2

Here’s my latest cartoon about the media focus on looting along with my recent protest favorites from all of the CagleCartoonists. Passions are running high on the right and the left, which makes for some great cartoons and many angry readers who object to the cartoons, including my own cartoons. Many of the cartoons, like my cartoon today, are not likely to be reprinted in newspapers. Editors don’t like cartoons with poop and with criticism of other media.

My cartoon is about how looting steals the attention of the media, especially the conservative media, but all of the major media.  Here’s are a bunch of great ones from the past couple of days.(I wouldn’t call my cartoon “great,” it is kind of stinky.)
