Top Ten Cartoons of the Week – August 14th, 2021

Here are our most reprinted cartoons of the week ending  August 14th, 2021. Congratulations to Dave Whamond and Dave Granlund who tied for the first place with the most reprinted cartoon of the week.  And special kudos to Jeff Koterba and Dave Whamond for having two cartoons each in the Top Ten.

For the first time ever, we have a five way tie for 5th place, between Jeff Koterba, Rivers, Dave Fitzsimmons, Gary McCoy and Dave Whamond– What are the chances of that happening? Congrats to Bruce Plante and Rick McKee too!

Just about half of America’s daily, paid circulation newspapers (around 700 papers) subscribe to CagleCartoons.com. These are the cartoons that editors picked last week.

Our reader supported site, Cagle.com, still needs you!  Journalism is threatened with the pandemic that has shuttered newspaper advertisers. Some pundits predict that a large percentage of newspapers won’t survive the pandemic economic slump, and as newspapers sink, editorial cartoonists who depend on newspapers sink too, and along with them, our Cagle.com site.

The world needs political cartoonists more now than ever. Please consider supporting Cagle.com and visit Cagle.com/heroes.

Harvey Weinstein Walks Free! (not)

Here’s an interesting post from my brilliant buddy, Taylor Jones. –Daryl

It’s very rare that I draw cartoons in advance of a news events, because it’s taking a gamble that the cartoon will prove inappropriate or just plain wrong. However, last Friday, when the news reported that there might be a hung jury, I thought I’d give my rather simple Harvey Weinstein idea a shot.

Today, the jury came through with guilty verdicts on the two lesser counts, sending the ex-movie mogul to jail while the appeals process begins. However, what rendered the cartoon moot is society’s gain.  –Taylor Jones

Here is another great, Taylor Jones Harvey Weinstein cartoon. It is an oldie …

…and another one!

Taylor is great! See Taylor’s archive.

Triple Putz

With all the talk of “landing the triple lutz” at the olympics, it occurred to me that Trump is a “triple putz”.

I thought “putz” was Yiddish slang for “penis” with the meaning of “jerk” but according to the Google dictionary:

putz
ˌpəts,ˌpo͝ots/
NORTH AMERICAN informal
noun
  1. 1.
    a stupid or worthless person.
  1. engage in inconsequential or unproductive activity.
“too much putzing around up there would ruin them”

That definition is not quite what I meant. I told our Cagle cartoonists that we weren’t going to accept penis gags any more. That was quite a difficult edict to enforce – I’m even violating it with this triple putz. Putzes win, I guess.

Doggie Sexual Harassment!

Celebrities and politicians are getting slammed with sexual harassment allegations from years ago. It must be the same in the doggie world.

I hate to draw cartoons about crime. Cartoons about bad guys are usually lousy cartoons because they only bash the bad guys, and it doesn’t add much to the public debate to say “that bad guy is bad” in a cartoon. The sexual harassment debate is different because it looks like tribal loyalty “trumps” moral conviction. One accuser against Senator Al Franken, who accepts his apology, is a cause célèbre for Republicans who call the many Trump accusers “fake news.” The same was true of president Bill Clinton; Democrats dismissed Clinton’s many accusers as liars. It seems there are no tribes in Hollywood as accused celebrities are dropping like flies.

Here’s a cartoon I drew about Judge Roy Moore’s supporters last week. The air is thick with hypocrisy these days.

It may seem like sexual harassment hasn’t been in the news until now, when there is little else in the news – but sexual harassment is an evergreen topic with cartoonists. Here’s one I drew about Bill O’Reilly.

And here are two I drew about sexual harassment in the military.

Here’s one on Bill Cosby.

Here’s one on Trump and his infamous Access Hollywood tape.

And I’ll round this out with a couple of Anthony Weiner cartoons.

Here’s my Anthony Weiner infinity cartoon.

O’Reilly Kicked Out

I’ve enjoyed the O’Reilly news. It is so nice to have a story that doesn’t involve Trump or possible nuclear annihilation. Here’s my new cartoon on O’Reilly getting the boot.

Here’s an O’Reilly oldie I drew 13 years ago. He looks so much younger …

And we’ve gotten more O’Reilly cartoons today, here are some I liked, below. I think O’Reilly is hard to draw. I have to fiddle around with his face for quite a while before I’m happy with is. Rick McKee didn’t have any trouble with the O’Reilly in his cartoon below …

This Ed Wexler cartoon is a great Trump caricature …

And I liked this David Fitzsimmons “Killing” cartoon …

Bill O’Reilly and Fox News Analysts

Here’s Bill O’Reilly and those sexy, Fox New analysts. I drew this one last week and I haven’t been very good about posting these – sorry. I’m working on a new O”Reilly cartoon now that we have the news that O’Reilly got the boot today. Keep your eyes peeled for that one!

Here are a few of my recent O’Reilly favorites by our other cartoonists … I thought this first one by Adam Zyglis would be a Yahtzee – but no …

This John Darkow cartoon made me laugh, and I like his O’Reilly caricature …

Here’s my buddy Steve Sack!

And my buddy Sean Delonas seems to have enjoyed rendering this one …

Look at My Medals!

Here’s my newest cartoon – another cliche cartoon about the military guy showing off and explaining his medals, regarding the recent sexual assault and harassment issues in the military.

132835 600 Look at My Medals! cartoonsMy buddy, Milt Priggee did one of these today also, on the same topic, but Milt’s was a bit harsh and I don’t think it will get reprinted much.

132800 600 Look at My Medals! cartoons

Here’s one I did recently when the military finally allowed for equal treatment of women in combat.

126086 600 Look at My Medals! cartoons

I did this one when the military struck down “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

87150 600 Look at My Medals! cartoons

Here’s one from when Hillary Clinton was running for president, arguing that she would be a great commander-in-chief.
49483 600 Look at My Medals! cartoons

I did this one with the General Petraeus scandal.
122322 600 Look at My Medals! cartoons

Here’s another nice medals cartoon by John Darkow, about the Petraeus scandal.

122272 600 Look at My Medals! cartoons

Cartoonists are so crazy-motivated to get awards, I think the cartooning awards should all come in the form of medals the cartoonists can wear to show off how much better they are then each other – kind of like peacocks flaunting their plumage.  it would make our conventions more fun.
