Top Cartoons! Russia and Embryos as Children

Another week, another mixed bag of news topics that found their way onto the drawing boards of the nation’s top cartoonists.

Several of our most-reprinted cartoons this week centered on Russia, which included former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s widely-mocked softball interview with Vladimir Putin. There was also a vague warning of a Russian space super weapon that caught the attention of a couple of cartoonists.

This week’s most popular cartoon was Dave Granlund’s riff on a court in Alabama ruling that frozen embryos are children. While the ruling has been highly controversial, impacting doctors, hospitals, and families trying to have a child, Granlund chose to focus on a family attempting to claim tax credits for the “kids” they have in the lab.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Dave Granlund

#2. Dick Wright

Smoke from Canadian wildfires one again drifted across the border this week, impacting air quality from Chicago to Philadelphia. John Darkow’s cartoon summing up all the weather-related dread Americans have faced this summer was our most popular cartoon among editors.

Darkow also drew the second-most reprinted cartoon, which commented on the terrible math scores among kids following COVID lockdowns.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#1. Bill Day

#2. Guy Parsons

Tucker Carlson Cartoons

You can learn more about this cool Ed Wexler, Tucker Carlson cartoon and thirty more on our new Caglecast podcast!

Watch the video! We’ve got cartoons about tanned testicles, Swanson TV dinners, Tucker’s lies from the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit discovery, snuggling up to Putin and denying the violence at the January 6th insurrection –we’ve got a Cartoon Tuckerfest!

Cartoons are a great insight into the news, distilling complex issues into images. We have the best cartoonists to explain what’s behind the cartoons, giving their witty insights on the Fox News and Tucker, who we now know were lying the whole time. This is a great Caglecast –don’t miss it!

Our three great cartoonist guests on the video podcast are:

GARY McCOY, who draws two newspaper comics strips, The Flying McCoys and the Duplex in addition to drawing editorial cartoons for our CagleCartoons.com syndicate and lots of other stuff. ED WEXLER, who is a brilliant caricaturist who worked for 30 years as a creative director at Disney. For 12 years he was a regular cartoonist for US News & World Report magazine. Ed is known for his caricature cover art for The Hollywood Reporter’s Academy Awards and Emmy Awards issues also for 12 years. And ADAM ZYGLIS, who is the Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist for The Buffalo News in New York.

The discussion turns into an argument with our conservative cartoonist friend, Gary, about whether the January 6th insurrection was even an insurrection at all, or just a pleasant day for tourists in Washington. We also have a close examination of Tucker’s testicles and Tucker’s relationship with Vladimir Putin.

Twitter Trouble: Top Ten Cartoons of the Week

There’s been a lot of talk about people being disengaged from politics this election cycle, and this week’s most popular cartoons seems to back that up.

Despite midterm elections that saw Republicans struggle and Donald Trump put himself back into the spotlight, editors seemed more interested in Elon Musk and the chaos he’s created at Twitter. Between the issues at Twitter and layoffs at Amazon, it wasn’t the best week for some of the world’s top tech giants.

I also enjoyed Dave Whamond’s cartoon about a changing of the guard at Starbucks, from pumpkin spike lattes to eggnog lattes, which is probably a lot more relevant to people than how large the Republican majority will be in the House.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

#2. Dave Granlund, Cagle.com

#3. John Darkow, Columbia Missourian

Top Ten Cartoons – New Green Deal

Last week, President Joe Biden announced he will pardon thousands of Americans federally convicted of marijuana possession. It didn’t take long for cartoonists to twist the acronym POTUS into fun riffs on pot and new green deals.

The upcoming midterm elections were also on the minds of cartoonists and editors last week. While cartoonists love the candidates and craziness that comes with national elections every couple of years, for most voters Nov. 8 can’t get here soon enough.

Top Ten Cartoons of the Past Week!

President Joe Biden delivered a speech in Philadelphia last week where he called out “MAGA Republicans” and claimed former President Donald Trump and his supporters are a threat to American democracy.

Naturally, our liberal cartoonists supported what Biden said during his speech, while our conservative cartoonists thought he was a hypocrite thanks to his tone and bluntness.

Editors liked cartoons on an interesting mix of topics this week, including Labor Day, space junk, and new British Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Here are our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:

My Favorite Ukraine Flag Cartoons

Here are my favorite Ukraine Flag cartoons, starting with three of my own.  The first is my memorial cartoon for Ukraine’s civilian deaths.

This one is on America’s support for Ukraine …

This is my first Ukraine flag cartoon, drawn 28 years ago in 1984 for the Muppets and Hasbro/Playskool. I claim this as the first Ukraine flag cartoon! (Considering that Ukraine was founded as an independent nation in 1991, 21 years ago.)

Here are more favorites by the CagleCartoonists …

This Picasso inspired cartoon is by Emad Hajjaj, from Jordan.

This Van Gogh inspired cartoon is by Emad’s brother, Osama Hajjaj, from Jordan.

This one is by Ed Wexler, from Los Angeles.

This one is by Kap, from Barcelona, Spain.

This one is by Hajo, from the Netherlands.

… and this one is by Jeff Koterba, from Nebraska.
